I know a lot of Misfits who pride themselves in being extremely difficult to contact. They will refuse to create a Facebook account, for example. Or they will be impossible to reach, as they never respond to emails. Or calls. Or letters.
Barriers to communication can give one an irresistibly romantic allure. Or they can make one look terribly sad and isolated. Either way, they are amusing. That is why we are showcasing some unique and inconstant means of communication that we find particularly worthy of the Misfit name. Who knows- maybe after reading this article, you will find yourself impossible to reach as well.
Hand-drawn letters and postcards
There is something irresistibly fanciful about letters. Perhaps it is because they hearken back to old movies and books. Perhaps it is the romance of a dying medium. Or perhaps it is the value of a handmade, tangible communication in a world of bits and bytes. At any rate, letters, post-cards, and notes that are not only handwritten, but also entirely created by the sender are undeniably awesome, and should not be forgotten as a "totally boss" means of communication. For inspiration, check out the Griffen and Sabine trilogy by Nick Banton. You will find yourself enamored with this mailable art form in no time.
Carrier pigeons
If you want to be hard-core insane with correspondences, this is the way to go. Not only are carrier pigeons unique, they have history. According to Wikipedia (and we all know Wikipedia is the highest authority in all information), the Egyptians and Persians used carrier pigeons 3,000 years ago. Take that email! That said, there is no need to equate this form of communication with nerdy antiquity fetishes. Pigeon post, as it were, is actually quite badass, as the 1999 film Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai demonstrates. Doth ye disbelieve? Consult YouTube and see for yourself.
Personally engineered notes and puzzles
Nothing says 'Misfit' like a bad case of shyness, and the fabulous movie Amelie illustrates this beautifully as characters get creative with communicatin'. Whether messages were sent through torn up photo booth pictures, cryptic copies plastered in metro stations, or complicated maneuvers involving living statues and tons of blue chalk, Amelie's unique forms of communication had us begging for more. Why be so conventional with notes and greetings? It is far superior to be unconventional, risky, and daringly creative. That, after all, is what Misfits do best.
